Queen Elizabeth has dismissed Meghan's revelations about life behind palace walls with the legendary quip "recollections vary."
But was she in fact complicit in chasing the Duchess and her husband Harry - the Queen's grandson - out of the royal family and out of England?
The queen was obviously very loved and revered by the British people and others around the world, so one has to be very careful about what one says about her. Besides, one does not want to say anything negative about the dead.
But could the queen have done more to quell the brouhaha in Kensington Palace and in the press? She did take Meghan on the train ride and that was very nice and very memorable. Especially the part when Meghan was talking to her and laughing with her and she completely ignored the Duchess. One could pass it off as maybe the Queen did not hear the Duchess, but that moment does paint a picture.
Then there was her expression throughout the entire wedding ceremony. Lord have mercy. She did not look at all happy and beaming for the couple and Kate and Camilla were caught snickering as well. And Zara looked like she could just literally have a cow in the pews.
Then there is the revelation that the queen wanted the youthful and beautiful Meghan to dress is an off-white dress like Camilla (who with all due respect is old and has no style) just because Meghan had a two-year marriage before her marriage to Harry. Meanwhile, so many royal brides were married in "pure" white even though they had been sexually penetrated prior to the marriage - meaning they were not virgins and traditionally the white dress was only for virgins.
Then there was her deafening silence when Meghan was being attacked in the press.
And then there were the shenanigans with the photos on her desk when she made public announcements.
And then there was the hardline she took when they offered to work for her part-time from abroad. She could have been flexible about that.
And taking away sussexroyal. How petty!
The list goes on. And did she really decline to take a picture with Lilibet??? Oh my god. If that is true then not very grandmotherly, I must say.
So, that leaves me to question whether the queen was complicit in destroying Meghan's royal brand. Of course, she is dead now so no point in being too critical. But is she resting comfortably? Or does she have a few regrets? Was she proud of having Meghan in the family from day one? Or did she think that Meghan was not good enough for her grandson?
