Meghan, Duchess of Sussex wants a healthy relationship that is predicated on mutual respect with her sister-in-law Kate Middleton
Meghan thinks that her sister-in-law Kate Middleton, now Princess of Wales, is a good person and she has said so repeatedly. She wanted nothing more than for the two of them to get along. In fact; she assumed that they would have been BFFs! Before being introduced to Kate, Meghan and Harry had discussed their families and Harry assured Meghan that his family would welcome her with open arms. Harry spoke highly and warmly of Kate and Meghan fully expected that the two would have at least been good allies.
Meghan was not prepared for the cold reception that she received from Kate from the start. She really thought that she and Kate would have worked together for good as a team and that the four of them would have been a formidable foursome.
Meghan was really surprised and hurt by how much Kate seemed to dislike her. She has tried to retrace her steps to see what she could have done differently to have made a different impression on Kate. She has searched her heart and she honestly cannot figure out what happened with Kate. People have blamed Meghan for it all, and this breaks her heart. People have said it was all Kate's fault. They have called Kate "devious." All of these accusations help to fuel the fire and make things worse for Meghan.
Meghan avoids saying anything negative about Kate. She does not want to stir things up. But if she were to be honest, Kate was really not very nice to her. Kate has gotten away with it, but Meghan and Kate know what really happened and they both know the truth.
At this point, Meghan does not want any problems with Kate and William. William is her husband's brother and she has had to watch and listen to her husband suffer because of the rift that has developed in their relationship, and also with the relationship with Harry's father.
Her husband is really bombed about that, even though he doesn't say it and Meghan feels bad about it. She wants her husband to have a good and close relationship with his brother and father. She realizes that until she and Kate warm up to each other, the brothers will continue to have this rift.
The thing is, Meghan is also a proud woman who has achieved a lot in her life. She is not going to be subservient to Kate. She is not going to curtsy to Kate. Not because she does not want to follow protocols but because she is not going to give the media the satisfaction of using the curtsy protocols as a weapon against her, and turn it into a superior/inferior war between her and her sister-in-law.
Meghan, respectfully, is American. She is not British. She married into the British royal family and she tried her best to abide by the protocols. But there are lines that cannot be crossed. While she would welcome a healthy relationship with her sister-in-law Kate Middleton, it has to be a relationship predicated on mutual respect.
