I just saw a snippet of a Piers Morgan show and he very sourly deadpanned that without the titles of Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Harry and Meghan would no longer be bankable. His guest disagreed and said that with or without titles, they will be Harry and Meghan, two of the most famous people in the world. He expressed my sentiments exactly. While having the titles of Duke and Duchess of Sussex is nice, they don't need titles to be famous at this point.
Think about it. Are they famous because they have the titles or are they famous because they are Harry and Meghan?
For example, let's say the titles were changed tomorrow. And Charles said that instead of Duke and Duchess of Sussex, they are now the Earl and Countess of Birmingham. Is this going to change Harry and Meghan's fame? Not one iota.
What about if he said that instead of Duke and Duchess, they are Master Harry and Miss Meghan. Would that change their fame one iota? No.
What about if he said they can have no titles at all? Would that change their fame one iota? I doubt it strongly. They will just go by their first names. Sort of like Madonna. And that will be that.
They will probably be even more bankable. I mean, I am not going to lie, the titles sound nice. People are intrigued and impressed by titles as a general rule. But titles do not make the man or the woman and titles can change in seconds. Overnight William and Kate went from one title to three titles. It did not change who they are or the clothes they wear or how they feel inside their bodies.
So you know what? If Charles wants to strip Meghan and Harry's titles, I'm just like, whatever. They don't need em.
