Harry and Meghan to Buy Vineyard in Napa Valley and Make Wine Under Their Own Label, Sentebale

Carbernet Sauvignon. Merlot. Pinot Noir. Tuscan olive oil. What are the Duke and Duchess up to next??

(This post has a recent update here.)

These two are a total soap opera! Apparently and according to well-placed sources, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are actively searching for a vineyard in Napa Valley and Sonoma Valley California. The couple is looking to own the vineyard outright, or co-own the vineyard with an already existing winery in the region because they want to make an AVA (American Viticulture Area) wine. Meghan who is an avid cook is also said to be keen on finding a vineyard that also has olive groves (Tuscan olives) as she would like to produce olive oil in addition to wine. Can you believe it?? So cool.

Our sources tell us that the royal couple is looking to create an American equivalent of what Brad Pitt has done with Chateau Miraval in the South of France. The vineyard, as noted, may be co-branded with something that is already in production, or they could just create something totally from scratch. They want to do something fresh and appealing to people who love a bottle of good, medium-priced wine - whether cabernet sauvignon, merlot, or pinot noir.

Harry is said to be keen to link some of the proceeds of the sale of this wine to his Sentebale charity in Africa. It is possible they will even call the winery and wine Sentebale. It has not been decided upon but it is one of the names that the couple is considering for their winery and olive oil products. As you probably know, Sentebale was founded by Prince Harry and Prince Seeiso in 2006 "as a response to the needs of children and young people in Lesotho."

Napa Valley

The Duke and Duchess are in the very beginning stages of their search for just the right winery according to our sources (wink, wink). Ideally, they would like to find something with a guest house facility where guests can enjoy the vineyard all year round. The couple is not planning to move to Napa Valley, however. Not that they have completely ruled out the possibility, but the idea is to purchase the vineyard as an investment rather than as their next primary residence --but things could change if they find a great opportunity.

I don't know about you but when I heard this, I was so excited. I think a winery would be a great investment for the Duke and Duchess. Of course, if they know nothing about it, they should get the right advice from people who know what they are talking about before they do it. Brad Pitt was very successful with Chateau Miraval in France but Napa Valley and Sonoma Valley are very different from the South of France. And besides, Brad does not even live in France. So he has people there who handle the vineyard for him. Meghan and Harry have to be very smart about this if they are really serious about it. But people would definitely buy that wine, I think. Especially because it seems like they want to use a portion of the profits for Harry's Lesotho charity, Sentebale.

I am not sure about Sentebale as the name of the wine, though. I mean, it could grow on me, I suppose, but for now I think they should keep brainstorming other names.
